Accelerated Reader
is a reading motivation program used at Garrison. It is incorporated
into the reading goals in many reading classes. Students check out
books in their tested reading level, read them, and take tests to check for
comprehension. They are awarded points based on the number of correct
answers they have on the tests. The points may be redeemed at the AR
Store at the end of each semester. |

You can find out if a book you are reading has an Accelerated Reader test by
using the new Destiny OPAC. Click below, select Garrison Middle School from
the District Web Page, then click on the Catalog tab, type in the title and
click on the icon for Title. If there is an AR test for the book, it will be
shown under the title in the listing.

STAR is a reading assessment
test which is given to all students at Garrison. This test gives
valuable information about the student reading level and determines a ZPD
range, which shows an optimum range for students to read for improvement.
Students with above grade level reading ranges are encouraged to read from
any range of books which interest them in order to broaden their reading
