| We believe that a
library should have a policy of open access for all. In light of that,
Garrison Library operates under a flexible scheduling plan.
Each reading class has a weekly scheduled time for whole class checkout.
Teachers are expected to participate with their classes during checkout to
help students make appropriate book choices.
Teachers and students are also encouraged to visit the library whenever the
need arises for reading materials, research, and computer use.
Collaborative teaching is encouraged with the librarian for classroom
assignments and projects to utilize the technology of the library.
Students coming to the library apart from their whole class are expected to
present a pass from the classroom teacher at the front counter when they
enter. The pass should indicate why the student is coming to the
library and indicate any expectations for the visit, including a return time,
if the student is limited in time.
Checkout Policy:
Students
are encouraged to limit their checkouts to two (2) at a time, but special
needs can be accommodated; i.e., class assignments, family trip, long
weekend, etc.
Materials
may be borrowed for two weeks and may be renewed unless there is a reserve on
the item for another student
Students
with overdue materials may have checkout privileges restricted; i.e., only
allowed to check out one book; must have teacher permission, etc. At times it
may be necessary to have teacher's checkout books for student use in the
classroom.
Return
all materials to the TURN-IN SLOT in the front of the counter. DO NOT
leave them on the counter or library tables.
The
student is responsible for all items checked out to him/her. Books
loaned to friends are STILL the responsibility of the person who checked the
book out. If a friend wants a book you have been reading, come to the
library with them to have the checkout transferred to their name.
Avoid
having OVERDUE materials as a courtesy to other readers.
Keeps
books in a SAFE PLACE (clean, dry, handled carefully), younger siblings and
pets don't always handle things carefully. Dogs especially love the
glue that holds books together.
Damaged/lost
materials should be paid for by the borrower, per district policy.
Materials
must be returned or paid for prior to the last week of school.
Students may not be eligible for special school sponsored activities if their
records are not cleared. Report cards will be held in the office for
those with unsatisfied fines.
REFUNDS
are provided for items that are returned at a later time, even the next
school year.
