Green Park Elementary School1105 East Isaacs Ave
Walla Walla, Wa 99362

 Welcome to Green Park

Green Park has a rich history and tradition of providing quality education to children in Walla Walla since 1905.  Completely refurbished in 1996, our up-to-date facility and great staff make Green Park a wonderful place to learn! We invite you to become involved with our school. Your participation is critical to our success.

We believe in the rich educational traditions of yesterday as well as tomorrow's promise of new ideas and techniques.  Green Park is a school where all children experience success and gain the skills to become life long members of society.  It is here that tradition meets the future.

By recognizing our past and looking to the future, the desire of Green Park Elementary is to provide a safe, nurturing, and challenging learning environment for all of its students. The school and the surrounding community will strive to give the vital learning tools for each student to reach their full potential in becoming a productive and successful citizen. In doing so, each student will be empowered for a lifetime of responsibility, and a genuine respect for one another.

Early Release Day Schedule:

On early dismissal days (as noted on the school district calendar), school is dismissed 2 and 1/2 hours early. School buses operate 2 and 1/2 hours early. Students are served lunch before they go home.

Elementary Early Release - Every Wednesday, beginning the second Wednesday of the school year, elementary children will be dismissed one hour and 15 minutes early. (1:40 pm) to provide time for teacher collaboration, training and long-range programs planning.  School buses will run the same routes on Wednesday - only one hour and 15 minutes earlier.

OFFICE CHECK IN

It is very important that you check in at the office when you come to visit. You need a visitor's tag. You may be a stranger to many of the staff and students. We have a concern with a lot of people in the building at the end of the day. Many parents walk in and go to their child/children's rooms. Please check in first or arrange to meet your child outside of school.

EMERGENCY DRILLS

By state law we are to run an emergency evacuation once a month, such as a fire drill. We try to do each drill a little differently. We block exits, and we conduct drills at recess, assemblies, etc. If we would ever have a crisis at our school and need to leave the area, we need the parents/guardians to know a few things that are very important. The brown shed and the field area is our meeting place. Each student has a name tag with information on it. If parents/guardians come to pick up their child/children, please look for the checkout table to check them out. You must sign them out and please do not park anywhere on Green Lane or the Alley. Other than yourselves, only the people that you have listed as emergency contacts can pick up your children. Please keep this updated in the office.  If for some reason it is unsafe for us to stay in the field area, we would move to Menlo Park (on Alvarado and Division). If weather is bad and we need to be inside we would be bused or walk to Whitman College (Sherwood Center).

DROP OFF AND PICK UP

Green Lane is closed to thru traffic between 7:45 am to 8:15 am. 2:30 pm to 3:20 pm. and 1:50 pm to 2:15 pm on Wednesday.   Buses and day care vans are the only vehicles allowed during this time. Parking is permitted for drop off and pick up on Clinton Street and Portland Street. Parking anywhere on Green Lane and the alley during school hours could cause a problem if we need to get emergency vehicles to our school and will result in a parking citation.  Please do not use the alley for drop off or pick up. You are putting your child in danger when this is done.
You may park in the parking lot only if you are doing business in the school, when Green Lane is not closed, or need to use the handicapped parking (handicapped sign needed). We have a great concern for your child/children's safety if you are dropping off or picking up in the parking lot. We have seen too many children unattended and running through the lot to get to a car. We also have seen cars not parked in a spot but driving through and stopping to pick up their child/children and blocking others at a very busy time of day. We encourage your child/children to use the cross walks and our patrol when crossing the street.

BICYCLE SAFETY:

Due to the possibility of serious bicycle accidents, we recommend that young children and those living close to school do not ride to school. Each bicycle is to be locked when left at school during the day. Children may not ride bicycles on school grounds during school hours.
In addition, we hope that you, as parents, will frequently reinforce the proper safety habits that all bicycle riders must observe and require that they wear a helmet when riding their bikes.

CLOSED CAMPUS

Elementary schools operate with a closed campus which means that children are not allowed to leave the playground once they have arrived unless they have written parent permission to leave for reasons such as family trips, medical appointments, personal family business, etc. For safety reasons, students will not be allowed to leave school grounds during the school day with an adult other than a parent/legal guardian without written permission from the parent/legal guardian.
