Green Park Elementary School is part of the Walla Walla School District #140.
The core subjects are very important to educational development of your child. Below is what is happening of interest in the three main areas. READING
This summer the Walla Walla School District adopted the Harcourt Tropies/Trofeos reading series for Grade Kindergarten through 5th grade. We are excited about this series! It contains collections of classic and contemporary works, lessons to develop vocabulary, spelling and comprehension skills, opportunities to respond to literature, phonics instruction and much more. It includes materials for students who are reading below, at, or above grade level as well as selections for Second Language Learners. STAR Reading Star reading assesses students’ reading progress in grades 1–12 in a fast, accurate, and easy way. STAR Reading helps to determine the reading level of each student, measure individual and class growth, and forecast results on standardized tests. Students can complete the computer-adaptive assessment in less than 10 minutes, and provide accurate, reliable, norm-referenced scores immediately. Writing
Math
The math curriculum, Investigations for grades K-5, is a hands-on, conceptual based spiraling curriculum that is also based on the NCTM standards. Number sense, geometry, probability/statistics, measurement, algebra, and problem solving are presented using manipulative, computer programs, and pencil/paper activities. Green Park has been working diligently to provide every student with the richest math program possible by incorporating math fact challenges and computation practice. The Accelerated Math program has provided abundant practice materials.
