Are you
committed to the belief that reading is the single most important life skill
children can achieve? Motivation is one key to learning any skill. Students
who are motivated to read learn to enjoy reading and develop critical cognitive
skills.
The Accelerated Reader program offers students a variety of means through
which to increase reading skills. Students will have higher interaction with
computers, increase access to quality literature, better comprehension, and
higher order thinking skills practice. The program additionally adds an
opportunity for positive communication to parents. Each teacher has a more
consistent way of monitoring students' progress. But most of all, students can
develop a love of reading as their skills continue to grow.
The Accelerated Reader program delivers a motivational
point system based on proven, tested methods of game theory. The point
systems awards points proportional to the difficulty level of the book and the
degree of student comprehension in order to measure reading progress. This
may be part of a teacher directed assignment or students independent practice at
their own pace. The variety of reading levels touch a wide range of
student ability levels.
