Green Park Elementary School is part of the Walla Walla School District #140.
What is a Panther Pride student? Positive recognition is a tremendous motivator for our students to make responsible decisions at school, as well as in the community. We have developed this program to recognize those students who consistently make responsible choices and who serve as role models for other students in making good decisions.
How does a student become a Panther Pride student? If a student believes they qualify to become a Panther Pride student, they must demonstrate that they meet the behavioral standards and guidelines established by the school for this program. During a specified period of time at the beginning of each month (usually one week), teachers will issue a Pride application to students who have demonstrated Pride behavior. The student completes a self-assessment and agrees to maintain Pride expectations by signing the form. The student then approaches each other staff members they work with during the day to initial the form. This includes cafeteria, bus driver, recess duty teachers, special programs, library, P .E., etc. As each staff member signs or initials the form they also indicate "yes" if they agree that the student's behavior meets the standards of a Panther Pride student. Only those applications with 100% "yes" responses are qualified to become a Panther Pride student.
What happens when a student becomes a Panther Pride student? The student receives a necklace with their first and last initials and a colored bead on it. This necklace identifies them as a Panther Pride student and allows them freedom to move from room to room without a pass, among other privileges. After three months the students earn a new bead, which is added to their necklace. The students are to remove their necklace at the end of each day and leave it in their desk or a place designated by their teacher. At the end of the school year they turn their necklace in to their teacher. (If they move over the summer, the necklace is sent with their school records and given to the student as a memory gift. Fifth grade students will keep their necklaces at the end of the school year.) Each student must go through the application process at the beginning of the school year to demonstrate they still meet Pride expectations before the necklace is returned. When they get their necklace back it will have an additional bead attached.
If a student gets a yellow slip or demonstrates other behaviors that are not consistant with Pride expectations, i.e. late work, not treating others with kindness and respect, being off-task, etc., they will lose their Pride necklace for three days for the first offense, 10 days for the second offense, and if they lose it a third time they must go through the application process all over again to get it back.
If a student misplaces their necklace they may purchase a replacement for $2.00.
The student's name is also placed in a drawing for Lunch With the Principal Program. Each month 10 Panther Pride students are chosen to have lunch with the Principal. The students meet in the office, sign a thank you card for the business who is sponsoring the lunch, wash their hands and walk to Tony's with the Principal. We will have at least one Pride Celebration outing each year off campus. Panther Pride is a program to motivate children to become responsible, caring students. Not based on academics, this program is open to all willing students. Teachers will handout the applications to students they feel will be successful at meeting the application criteria. They will discuss areas needing improvement with those who are not ready to complete the application in order to provide them with some direction/motivation to obtain their pride in the future.
