Green Park Elementary School is part of the Walla Walla School District #140.
Guidelines for a Paws-itive Playground Experience
Playground Goal: To provide a safe and orderly environment, where all children will have the opportunity to practice positive social skills. Paws-itive Playground Behaviors Always try your hardest and do your best.
Be responsible.
Cooperate with others
Discover lessons from mistakes
Everyone deserves respect-you, too.
Playground Games: The recesses at Green Park are viewed as an opportunity for students to learn a variety of social skills. We encourage organized play, in that it allows students an opportunity to learn to be interdependent, to cooperate with others, to follow the sequence of-rules that govern the game, etc. NOTE: The purpose of our behavior intervention efforts is to increase a child's behavioral success at school. However, we recognize that you are your child's ultimate teacher. Should you wish to employ a behavior intervention plan that differs from our school-wide plan, we invite you to call the office. Social Skills Training: We also offer instruction in the areas of anger management, impulse control and empathy training. Our social worker will work with small groups or individual students to increase their success in these areas as needed.
Encouragement Procedures: All staff will consistently encourage responsible behavior through positive, meaningful interactions with students. The following activities and/or programs will facilitate this intent: 1. Friendly interactions from playground supervisors and greeters. 2 "Panther Eyes Axe Watching!" (phase 1) Panther slips will be given randomly to students demonstrating "paws"itive behaviors on the playground. Each duty supervisor will have up to 3 awards to give out per recess. 3. "Panther Eyes Axe Watching!" (phase 2) Students will be encouraged to participate in a school-wide effort to earn a "Paws"-itive Celebration. This can be earned by filling a hall bulletin board with Panther Slips. Once the board is completely filled, a celebration will occur. However, students who have been issued a Yellow Slip during that term will not have the privilege of participation unless they have performed a school-community service resulting in a positive contribution and "clears the slate", 4. Spirit Days will also be planned regularly to nurture positive and playful interactions for staff and students, resulting in a unified Green Park spirit. Each Friday will be Green & White day. 5. Additionally, one day per month will be identified as a theme day (i.e. Hat Day, Multicultural Day, Beach Day).
