bulletMay 21st - Act 91 - looking at fossilized footprints and trying to infer what was happening when they were made.  Discuss the differences between observations and inferences.

bulletMay 18th and 19th - MSP Testing for periods 1-3.  Afternoon classes will watch a video on prehistoric life on Tuesday...on Wednesday students will try to recreate a drawing of a creature based on fossil evidence.

bulletMay 14th - Correct activity 89 and examine real fossils...make a sketch and make observations about each.
bulletMay 13th -   MSP testing in the morning - afternoon classes will have a debate about the reintroduction of the mammoth into the wild.
bulletMay 12th - Discuss Act 89.Do analysis questions 1, 3b, and write a short essay stating what extinct specie you would like to see brought back...list the pros and cons to bringing it back....

bulletApril 28th and 29th - Add the words limiting factor, competitiion, and adaptations to our CCD's.  Work on making a small ratlike creature that has adaptations to live on the island that you are given.  You need to have a drawing of of the creature that you create on the island.  The picture needs to be detailed, colored, and have the adaptations of your creature labeled. 
bulletApril 27th - RAIN!!  We can't go outside today so we will work on the Deer Predation/Starvation worksheet and graph.
bulletApril 26th - Correct Act 85 and go to Pioneer Park.  Make  a list of the predators, prey, producers, consumers, scavengers, and decomposers that we find.. Click here for audio of the lesson (Part 1, Part 2).

bulletApril 20th - "Energy Flow" (page 1, page 2) and "Living things and the Environment" (page 1, page 2) worksheets.
bulletApril 16th - 19th- Watch Easter Island video and discuss how what happened on Easter Island relates to fluctuating Zebra Mussel populations.  Then we will write a short story about the dangers of overpopulating and not conserving our natural resources.  On Friday we will watch a brief video on Easter Island ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfbQA-Krx9Q ) and then outline the story.  The story will be two pages in length plus an illustration.  The title of the story will be "The Island" and the focus will be conserving natural resources and the consequences if we do not.  On Monday we will write the story and create the illustration.  The story will be due Tuesday at the beginning of class.  Some classes will discuss the Story of Stuff.

bulletApril 14th -  Finish assembling skeleton from owl pellet.
bulletApril 12th - Finish putting producer, consumer, autotroph and heterotroph into our Content Dictionaries and add ecosystem and ecology.  Write a story about one of the critters that you found in your owl pellet...include the words: energy, producer, consumer, autotroph, heterotroph, predator, prey, ecosystem, energy pyramid, ecology.  Each of these words should be underlined in your story.
bulletApril 9th and 13th - Dissecting owl pellets and trying to determine the number of animals consumed as well as assembling a skeleton.
bulletApril 8th - Correct Cornell notes and ecology pyramid questions.  Making a food web for Walla Walla.

bulletMarch 26th and April 5th - Your choice...you can choose from the following assignments using one of the introduced species from Activity 73 as the character/topic: an autobiography, a detailed illustration or painting, a newspaper/magazine article with an illustration, a video, or a children's book/or a fable.  We will finish this activity when we come back from Spring Break...however if you would like to put in some extra time over break and complete a 2nd assignment you can earn extra credit!  Click here for an audio clip of the directions.

bulletMarch 19th - Discussion of Carolus Linnaeus and taxonomy.  Make an encyclopedia entry for the blackworm.  Include a detailed drawing, and information about how it eats, survives, moves, where it lives, its size etc.
bulletMarch 18th - Act. 74 observing blackworms.  Make at least 10 detailed observations.
bulletMarch 17th - Act. 75  Looking at how organisms are classified.  Create a visual illustration explaining the information.

bulletSeptember 17th - We will finish and correct Activity 32.  We will review the input chart about diseases and then watch a short video about the Bubonic Plague and then answer analysis questions 1-4.  Homework will be interviewing parents (grandparents if possible) about diseases that they encountered when they were younger.
bulletSeptember 15th -16th - We will do Activity 32 and answer Analysis questions 1,2,4.  We will go over an input chart about infectious diseases.  We will finish the words carrier and epidemiologist and add the words quarantine and vector to the CCD
bulletSeptember 14th - We will finish the word "infectious" in the CCD and will add the words carrier and epidemiologist.  I will give an overview of what a carrier is using an input chart.  We will correct Activity 30
bulletSeptember 11th - We will finish Activity 30 and do analysis questions 1-3.
bulletSeptember 10th - We will start on Activity 30.  We will learn how to make a CCD (cognitive content dictionary) and work on the word infectious. 
bulletSeptember 9th - Review group norms and talk about Suzie's heart.  Make a T-chart about "what we know/Questions we have" regarding the topics covered on the pictures (disease). 
bulletSeptember 8th - Begin "Interactive Journals" writing about who you are.  Take a short quiz on the parts of an experiment.  Walk around the classroom looking at the pictures that are up.  Make comments on the papers attached to each paper. 
bulletSeptember 7th - You're even crazier than the people who showed up on Friday because today is Labor Day and there is no school...
bulletSeptember 4th - You're crazy if you show up today because there is no school.
bulletSeptember 3rd - Finish and correct gum lab.
bulletSeptember 2nd - Finish conclusions and write a conclusion as a class by making a "pocket chart" on the computer.
bulletSeptember 1st - Blow bubbles and record measurements.  Make a graph and start your conclusion.
bulletAugust 31st - Continue writing the Gum lab.  Write a detailed procedure, list of materials and identify all of the variables (controlled, manipulated and responding).  Also make a data table to hold all of your results.  If finished in time you may start measuring bubbles.
bulletAugust 28th - Review using Learning Log:  Steps of an experiment.  Write procedures on how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with opposing team making a sandwich that you eat.  Write question and hypothesis for bubble gum lab.
bulletAugust 26th - 28th - Look at how to set up an experiment.  Start designing the bubble gum experiment.
