BEGINNING ART (ART262)
Beginning/Advanced Art Course Syllabus
ADVANCED ART
(ART263 )
(.5 credit per semester) Prerequisite: ART262. This semester
course offers students more in-depth study of art. Students
will
expand their knowledge and further the techniques obtained in
ART262 to begin developing a personal style. Students will
continue
to learn about visual composition through the elements
and principles of design and will be introduced to printmaking.
This course requires a $20 lab fee to cover the cost of
painting, drawing and printmaking materials.
ADVANCED STUDIO
ART (ART273)
(.5 credit per semester) Prerequisite: ART262 and ART263 and
teacher permission. This course is designed for students who
have taken a full year of art at Walla Walla High School and
are
dedicated to further improving their skills as artists. Many
may
decide to pursue a career in art. The students in this course
will
work to master their skills and further develop their own
style
and emphasis. Each student will be required to prepare a
portfolio
for an exhibition each semester. This course requires a $20
lab
fee to cover the cost of painting, drawing and sculpture
materials.
A.P. STUDIO ART/2D DESIGN
(.5 credit
per semester) Prerequisites: ART262, ART
275, ART 273.
This course is for students who are ready for a college-level art experience.
Students will create 12 works that focus on a particular
visual
interest or problem, 12 works that
demonstrate a variety of Design
concepts, media, and approaches, and 5 works demonstrating
quality. Students who enroll in AP Studio Art are expected to
submit 3 portfolios (Concentration, Breadth, and Quality) in May
for college credit. The cost of the portfolio review is
approximately $75.00. There is a lab fee of $20, and in addition,
students will need to provide their own
slides/developing for
submission of the portfolio.

BEGINNING
PHOTOGRAPHY (ART254)
(.5 credit per semester) Prerequisite: Introduction to Art
(ART262)
This is a semester course. Using an adjustable camera, learn
the
basics of black and white photography, i.e., camera
operation, film
development, printmaking, and enlarging. Composition
evaluation
as well as camera, lens, and enlarger parts and operation
instruction precedes darkroom work. A $40 course fee (due at
the
beginning of the semester) to cover the cost of chemicals and
film
is required. Students are also required to purchase their own
photographic
paper. Information on types and costs of photographic
paper will be discussed at the beginning of the semester. It
is
required that each student provides his/her own adjustable
(not
fully automatic) 35 mm camera.
ADVANCED PHOTOGRAPHY (ART274)
(.5 credit per semester) Prerequisite: Photography ART254 and
teacher permission. This semester course may be applied
toward
a fine arts or occupational ed graduation requirement, but
not both. Students will do further specialized work in the
area of
photography. A specified number of projects, as well as
critiques,
will be required during the semester. A $40 course fee (due
at the
beginning of the semester) to cover the cost of chemicals and
film is required; though, some extra expenses may be
required. It
is required that each student provide his/her own adjustable
(not fully automatic) 35 mm camera.
BEGINNING
POTTERY/SCULPTURE (ART264)
(.5 credit per semester) Prerequisite: Introduction to Art
(ART262)
In this class, the students will create practical and
decorative clay
forms using traditional techniques such as pinching, coiling
and
slab construction as well as using the potter’s wheel.
Students
will be able to finish their pieces by trimming decorating,
and
glazing. This course requires a $20 lab fee to cover the cost
of clay
and glazes.
Pottery/Sculpture Course Syllabus
ADVANCED POTTERY/SCULPTURE
(ART268)
(.5 credit per semester) Prerequisite: ART262 and ART264 and
teacher permission. This is a semester course. Students will
study
clay techniques in more depth, and will be expected to
specialize
in Pottery or Sculpture. A specific number of projects will e
required
during the semester, and each student will prepare a body
of work for an exhibition. This course requires a $20 lab fee
to
cover the cost of clay and glazes.
